Emily Velon and Mathieu Berthiaume spend the early morning hours of June 28, 2012 picking peas on Plowshare Farm, an organic community-supported agriculture farm run off a few rented acres of land near Elora, Ontario. Velon and Berthiaume are interns at the farm, volunteering their time for low wages and long hours to learn about organic farming and the farming lifestyle.

Plowshare Farm interns Mathieu Berthiaume and Emily Velon pick peas in the fields. They are two of four young farmers opting to work on the farm, using manual labour and horses, to grow organic produce for their CSA members and to sell at a nearby farmers' market. The lifestyle has significant sacrifices, like sixteen hour days, and significant rewards, like fresh produce grown by hand.
